Fast forward to the fall of 2022 when Peter was enjoying a family vacation in Northern Michigan. After a long hike on Sleeping Bear Dunes, he and his hungry boys headed to a brew pub/pizza restaurant in Northport MI. The brew pub cooks delicious pizzas in an outdoor, wood-burning oven called “Big Woody.” While he and his family were enjoying the tasty wood-fired pizzas, Peter had a lightbulb moment:

With an abundance of tree removals at S.B. Tree Service, Simon was sometimes left to dispose of trees in landfills. So why not turn these logs into firewood? A classic win-win!

Simon was eager to implement a circular solution to tree removal. In addition to keeping trees out of landfills, Simon and Peter could bring high quality, seasoned firewood to people and restaurants throughout the Greater Cincinnati Area. After returning from vacation, Peter put together a business plan and Queen City Firewood was born.

Since the fall of 2023, Simon, Peter, and the QCF team have been providing firewood to:

• Folks with a wood-burning fireplace or backyard fire pit

• Community members who heat their homes with wood-burning stoves

• Restaurants that prepare their food with the use of a wood-burning oven
